Exploring the future of Digital Humanities

A possible collaboration between the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s (UKZN), College of Humanities and the Faculty of Arts and Design (FoAD) could soon mean a setup of a research team consisting of academics from both the universities.

Speaking at the Digital Humanities seminar hosted by FoAD’s Research Office, Dr Maleshoane Rapeane-Mathonsi hinted that a collaboration between the two universities is in the pipeline.
“The faculty looks forward to the collaboration with UKZN on Digital humanities research team,” said Rapeane-Mathonsi.

The seminar featured UKZN’s Dr Anusharani Sewchurran who expressed her excitement at addressing FoAD’s staff and students. 

 “I am very pleased to have been presented with the opportunity to share my knowledge about Digital Humanities with students because it is very dear and close to my heart,” said Sewchurran.

Dr Sewchurran holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN where she teaches political economy of the media. Her research interests range from the regulation of media to the digital humanities, curriculum development, religion and the mediation of the religious identity via the new and social media.

“Diversity is great because we all provide different views and opinions of how we interpret information from a religious perspective all the way to our past history both culturally and religiously”, continued Sewchurran.


Sewchurran expressed how much times are changing due to technology and how we need to keep up with the times, information nowadays can be accessed easily.
