Photography lovers admire the ‘Kabusha’ at the Technical Centre.

The Durban University of Technology Photography BTech class of 2019 hosted their year-end exhibition titled, ‘Kabusha’ at the Technical Centre last Friday, 24 October 2019.

The students displayed a series of photographs to an audience that included their parents, friends, and other relevant stakeholders that are in partnership with DUT photography. Siya Meyiwa, one of the class representatives praised DUT Photography’s Coordinator Angela Buckland for a ‘significant’ role in their success as a class.

“This class is fortunate for having Angela as our educator, she greatly contributed to equipping us with the knowledge and skills that will go a long way into our careers and production of our work moving forward,” He said.
Buckland officially opened the exhibition by congratulating her students and celebrating their work. She said this was evidence of the journey they all travelled together.

She also thanked all those involved in making the exhibition a success, including the Durban Art Gallery. Buckland reiterated to her students the importance of forging relationships that will complement or elevate them professionally.

She said “Relationships are everything now going forward in your careers, Thank you to each and every student in the class of 2019 because I also have benefited a lot from you in this journey. I am extremely proud!” Buckland added.

BTech student, Thalent Khomo displayed a series of fashion inspired images relating it to black people. She said “The work I exhibited is an appreciation of black people because I believe we are royalty and powerful. I am also challenging the notion that colour is a one way thing, colour is not tangible or felt. It is seen and most people in the world don’t interpret colour the same way, being colour blind has taught me a lot about the world we see.”
